Greyhound Relocation and Adoption Awareness Day, Friday, October 17, 2003

Thanks once again to the London Canine Association, Canada's oldest dog club, for giving us a free booth at their annual dog show at the Western Fair. This 3 day show ran from Friday, October 17th to Sunday, October 19th. It featured confirmation, obedience and rally obedience trials, doggie dance demonstrations, kids and canines drill teams, and loads of vendors. The vendors must have known we were coming because they had tons of neat Greyhound stuff. The volunteers did their share of shopping! On Sunday afternoon all of the "volunteer" greys got bandanas with their names embroidered on them.

We had so many inquiries about adopting Greyhounds that we lost count. At one point on Saturday there were so many people crowded around our booth that no one could get past us and we had to clear an aisle! We met new Greyhound guardians who had come to the show to see us and to shop for their new greys, who were eager to find out how they could help out.

The Greyhounds worked hard being petted and admired during their 4 hour shifts. Inge Stahl's Jana worked so many shifts that at 3pm on Sunday she took herself to her ex-pen and refused to come out. She needed a rest.

Thanks to these people who came out and worked a shift or two with their greys: Karen Adamski, Beth Williams, Rhonda McCutcheon, Larry Morris, Joanne Howard, Tom and Michelle Bryden (even though they were sick), Jim and Kathy Hodgins, and Rebecca and Rob Larivierre - and their dogs. A special thanks to Beth Williams who made "Bacon Bites" that sold out in a flash, and Larry Morris who made GRA chocoalte bars. The biscuits, chocolate bars and donation tin raise $139.00 for GRA.

Finally a brag! Inge Stahl entered her Greyhound, Jana, in the Rally Obedience trial on Saturday night and she passed on her first try with a respectable score. She would have had a really good score if Inge hadn't made - what she describes as - a really big handling error. Jana forgave her.
